Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 72,115 China-made vehicles in October, of which 43,489 were exported, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The US electric vehicle (EV) maker has a plant in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub.

The latest figures from the CPCA mean that Tesla delivered 28,626 vehicles in China in October, up 66.43 percent year-on-year but down 34.2 percent from September.

Exports from Tesla’s Shanghai factory were down 20.21 percent year-on-year in October while up 42.28 percent from September.

Tesla’s pattern is to produce cars for export in the first half of the quarter and for the local market in the second half, it previously said.

Of the 72,115 China-made vehicles Tesla sold in October, including exports, 47,164 were Model Y and 24,951 were Model 3, according to the CPCA.

In the January-October period, Tesla delivered 462,355 vehicles in China, an increase of 37.87 percent year-on-year.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory exported 308,816 vehicles in January-October, up 40.74 percent year-on-year, data monitored by CnEVPost showed.

China’s retail sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) were 767,000 units in October, according to the CPCA. This means that Tesla’s share of China’s NEV market was 3.73 percent last month, down from 5.83 percent in September.

China’s retail sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in October were 495,000 units and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were 271,000 units, according to the CPCA.

This means that Tesla’s share of the Chinese BEV market was 5.78 percent in October, down from 8.7 percent in September.
