China’s EV Insurance Registrations: Week 25 Trends

During the week of June 16–22, 2025, several EV makers showed strong performance in China’s insurance registration data, while others recorded drops.
Nio Group Sees Steady Growth
Nio Inc and its sub-brands Onvo and Firefly saw a combined 5,170 insurance registrations, marking a 9.30% increase. Nio brand vehicles had 3,250 registrations, Onvo 1,450 (up 17.89%), and Firefly 470 (up 6.82%).


BYD and Li Auto Post Strong Numbers
BYD recorded 83,400 registrations, up 18.63%, while Li Auto reached 8,900, increasing by 12.66% week-on-week. These brands continue to expand their share in the domestic market.

Tesla Sees a Decline
Tesla’s weekly registrations dropped to 13,800, down 10.97% from the previous week. However, May retail sales in China reached 38,588 units, up from April but down 30.11% YoY.

XPeng and Leapmotor Maintain Momentum
XPeng recorded 8,500 registrations, up 32.81%. The company delivered 33,525 units in May, its seventh month above 30,000. Leapmotor followed with 9,700 registrations, marking a 10.23% weekly increase.


Huawei-Backed Aito Shows Strength
Aito, co-developed by Huawei and Seres, registered 10,900 vehicles — up 9% from the previous week. This marks continued progress for the emerging EV player.

Others: Zeekr, Xiaomi EV Trends
Zeekr recorded 3,100 units, slightly down from 3,200. Xiaomi EV posted 4,600 registrations, a drop from 5,600. The Xiaomi YU7 is scheduled for launch on June 26.
