BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 6 DM-i in Thailand, a hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle) model that is its fourth model there and its first hybrid.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Sealion 6 DM-i, which is known in China as the Song Plus DM-i, on August 8 at its passenger vehicle production base in Rayong, Thailand, according to a press release yesterday.

BYD will continue to increase its investment in the Thai market with more products next, the company said.

The Sealion 6 DM-i starts at 939,900 baht ($26,660) in Thailand. BYD launched the 2025 Song Plus DM-i in China on July 25 at a starting price of RMB 135,800 ($18,950).

BYD has partnered with local dealer Rever Automotive to sell cars in Thailand, and the two signed an agreement on July 6 that will see BYD acquire a 20 percent stake in Rever.

In addition to the Sealion 6 DM-i, the BYD models currently offered on Rever’s website are the Seal, the Dolphin, and the Atto 3, known in China as the Yuan Plus, all three of which are battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.

BYD has already begun local production in Thailand, with a local plant opening on July 4 with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

Models built at BYD’s Thailand plant include the Dolphin, Sealion, and Atto 3. The company also planned to build plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) there, including the Sealion 6, it said last month.

BYD sold 342,383 NEVs in July, up 30.60 percent year-on-year and up 0.21 percent from June, according to data it released on August 1.

In July, BYD sold 30,014 NEVs in overseas markets, flat from June.
