CATL’s share of China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market decreased in August, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) increased.

In August, China’s power battery installations amounted to 47.2 GWh, up 35.3 percent year-on-year and up 13.5 percent from July, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

CATL installed 20.98 GWh of power batteries in August, continuing to rank first with a 44.46 percent share, but down 2.84 percentage points from July’s 47.3 percent share.

BYD’s power battery installed capacity was 11.78 GWh in August, ranking second with a 24.96 percent share, an increase of 2.14 percentage points from July’s 22.83 percent.

CALB ranked third in August with a 7.34 percent share of 3.47 GWh of installed power batteries, up 0.18 percentage points from 7.16 percent in July.

Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in August with an installed base of 2.16 GWh and a 4.58 percent share.

China’s lithium ternary battery installed capacity in August was 12.1 GWh, accounting for 25.7 percent of the total installed capacity, up 12.3 percent year-on-year and up 6.8 percent from July.

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries were installed at 35 GWh, accounting for 74.2 percent of the total, up 45.6 percent year-on-year and up 16.1 percent from July.

CATL, CALB, and LG Energy Solution were the top three in terms of installed capacity of ternary batteries in August, with shares of 67.25 percent, 9.2 percent, and 8.18 percent, respectively.

In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and CALB were the top three in terms of installed capacity in August, with shares of 36.61 percent, 33.53 percent, and 6.71 percent, respectively.

China’s power and other battery production in August was 101.3 GWh, up 36.8 percent year-on-year and up 10.4 percent from July.

Ternary batteries produced 24.8 GWh in August, up 7.5 percent year-on-year and up 7.8 percent from July. LFP batteries produced 76.3 GWh, up 50.2 percent year-on-year and up 11.3 percent from July.

China exported 11.1 GWh of power batteries in August, including 7.7 GWh of ternary batteries and 3.3 GWh of LFP batteries.
