Tesla announced on Thursday that its Supercharger station at the P1 parking structure at Beijing’s Daxing International Airport is open to owners, the first Supercharger station at an airport in the Asia-Pacific region for the US electric car company.
The Supercharger currently has only eight charging posts, a small number for a Tesla charging station.
At the end of 2020, Tesla had announced the opening of the world’s largest Supercharger station, the Shanghai Jing’an International Center Supercharger Station, which has 72 charging piles.
Most of Tesla’s current Supercharger stations are built with the latest V3 charging piles, which can replenish 270 kilometers of range in 15 minutes at peak power.
Tesla has not yet announced charging rates for the Beijing Supercharger stations; for comparison, the price in Shanghai is $2.45 per kilowatt hour.
Tesla 2020 has built more than 650 Supercharger stations, currently covering cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Shenzhen and Shenyang.
In mid-December, Tesla’s Chinese competitor Xpeng Motors set up a Supercharger station in the parking lot of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, making it the first car manufacturer in China to set up a Supercharger station at an airport feeder.
Xpeng owners can charge for free at designated supercharging piles in the T1 Terminal P5 parking lot and T2 Terminal P6 parking lot at that airport, and enjoy free parking for one hour.
