Warren Buffett-backed Chinese electric car company BYD expects to see its one millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) roll off the production line in three days, marking a major milestone in the company’s history.

BYD announced this on Weibo, saying it will hold a ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

Earlier this month BYD announced figures showing that it sold 25,662 new energy vehicles in April, up about 6 percent from March and up 97 percent year-on-year.

BYD’s cumulative new energy vehicle sales from January to April were 80,413 units, up 128.53 percent year-on-year.

BYD sold 25,034 new energy passenger vehicles in April, up 104% from 12,262 units in the same month last year.

Among them, 16,114 pure electric vehicles were sold, up 62% from 9,966 units in the same month last year. Sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 8,920 units, up 289% from 2,296 units in the same month last year.

BYD Han model sales were 8,177 units in April, down 21 percent from 10,323 units in March.

Since its launch in July last year, Han models have sold more than 10,000 units in four months, with cumulative sales of 76,187 units to date.
