Tesla announced Wednesday the opening of a Supercharger route in northwest China connecting several well-known destinations.
The 2,229-kilometer route includes eight Supercharger stations and three destination charging stations along the way.
The route spans the provinces of Qinghai and Gansu, passing through several cities including Xining and Chaqa in Qinghai Province and Jiuquan and Dunhuang in Gansu Province.
There are attractions along the route including Qinghai Lake, Chaqa Salt Lake, Yueya Spring and Qicai Danxia, making it easy for Tesla users to drive themselves around, the company said.
Tesla previously opened another Supercharger line in southwest China, centered on key cities including Chengdu, Chongqing, Guiyang and Kunming, with a 2,134-kilometer route that features 14 Supercharger stations and more than 90 Superchargers.
This is a complete departure from Tesla’s previous low profile, and the promotion of Supercharger lines is an area in which local Chinese new energy vehicle companies have previously invested significant effort.
Tesla’s 900th Supercharger station in mainland China officially opened last Saturday in the mega-city of Shenzhen in southern China.
To date, Tesla has built more than 900 Supercharger stations in China, with more than 6,900 Superchargers.
It also has more than 700 destination charging stations and more than 1,700 destination charging posts in China, covering over 320 cities in China.
