Aiways seems to be the most aggressive of the Chinese EV startups in terms of expansion in overseas markets.

On November 16, Aiways entered Spain and Portugal through a strategic partnership with local partner Astara, the company said today.

Starting in the first quarter of 2022, local consumers will be able to purchase the Aiways U5, an all-electric SUV, online or from showrooms, the company said.

This brings Aiways’ presence to nine countries in Europe, providing products in Southern, Northern, Western and Central Europe and EFTA markets.

Astara is a global car sales and leasing company with operations in 14 countries and territories.

Aiways was founded in 2017 with the goal of becoming an international new energy smart car company.

In the past few months, the company had exported vehicles to several markets, including Israel and Germany.

In August, Bloomberg reported that Aiways was considering an IPO in the US as soon as this year, possibly raising about $300 million.
