In December, China’s power battery installations amounted to 75.4 GWh, up 57.3 percent year-on-year and up 12.2 percent from November, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

CATL’s power battery installed capacity in December was 34.29 GWh, continuing to rank first with a 45.48 percent share, up 2.76 percentage points from November’s 42.71 percent share.

BYD’s power battery installed capacity was 17.49 GWh in December, ranking second with a 23.19 percent share, down 1.92 percentage points from 25.11 percent in November.

CALB’s power battery installed capacity was 4.2 GWh in December, ranking third with a 5.57 percent share, down 1.1 percentage points from 6.67 percent in November.

Gotion High-tech ranked fourth with 4.19 GWh and a 5.55 percent share in December.

China’s lithium ternary battery installed capacity in December was 14.3 GWh, accounting for 19 percent of the total, down 13.4 percent year-on-year, but up 5.5 percent from November.

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries were installed at 61 GWh, accounting for 80.9 percent of the total, up 95.1 percent year-on-year and up 14 percent from November.

CATL, CALB, and LG Energy Solution were the top three in terms of installed capacity of ternary batteries in December, with shares of 67.98 percent, 10.88 percent, and 5.84 percent, respectively.

In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and Gotion were the top three in terms of installed capacity in December, with shares of 40.21 percent, 28.64 percent, and 6.38 percent, respectively.

China produced 124.5 GWh of power batteries and other batteries in December, up 60.2 percent year-on-year and up 5.7 percent from November.

Production of ternary batteries in December was 26 GWh, up 4.1 percent year-on-year and up 7.2 percent from November.

LFP battery production in December was 98.1 GWh, up 87.1 percent year-on-year and up 5.1 percent from November.

China exported 12.9 GWh of power batteries in December, including 7.7 GWh of ternary batteries and 5 GWh of LFP batteries.

For the full year of 2024, China’s installed capacity of power batteries were 548.4 GWh, up 41.5 percent year-on-year.

The installed capacity of ternary batteries in 2024 was 139.0 GWh, accounting for 25.3 percent of the total installed capacity, representing a year-on-year growth of 10.2 percent.

LFP batteries were installed at 409.0 GWh in 2024, accounting for 74.6 percent of the total, up 56.7 percent year-on-year.

CATL ranked first in China’s power battery installed capacity with 246.01 GWh and 45.08 percent share in 2024.

BYD ranked second in China’s power battery installed capacity with a share of 135.02 GWh and 24.74 percent share in 2024.

CALB ranked third in China’s power battery installed capacity with 36.48 GWh and 6.68 percent share in 2024.
