BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched four models in Guatemala, expanding its presence in the Americas.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker recently teamed up with distributor Grupo Confiño for a brand launch at the Auto Feria in Guatemala City, launching the Han, Tang, Song Plus DM-i, and Seal models, according to a press release yesterday.

Guatemala is a Central American country south of Mexico, and its capital is Guatemala City.

The launch of these four new vehicles in Guatemala marks an important step in BYD’s entry of NEVs into Central America, said Edward Davis, commercial manager of Grupo Confiño, in the event.

Guatemalan drivers can look forward to a smooth driving experience, advanced smart features and environmentally-friendly performance, BYD said.

BYD is vigorously expanding its footprint in Central America to provide the market with more green transportation options and enhance the local electric mobility experience, the company said.

BYD is the largest NEV maker in China, selling 502,657 NEVs in October, surpassing the 500,000 mark for the first time and marking the fifth consecutive month of record highs, according to data released on November 1.

In October, BYD sold 31,192 vehicles in overseas markets, up 2.20 percent year-on-year while down 5.51 percent from September.

Of the overseas sales in October, 28,012 were exported from China, according to the company.

The four models launched in Guatemala are among BYD’s best sellers and are already available in several overseas markets.

In the Americas, BYD has brought its models to markets including Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Panama.
