BYD’s (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium brand Denza has entered the Thai market, further expanding its international presence.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker yesterday announced its official entry into Thailand, the fourth Asia-Pacific market Denza has entered after Hong Kong, Cambodia and Singapore.

Denza will launch the Premium-AWD version of the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in Thailand, the brand said.

The all-electric D9 MPV to be available in Thailand is more than 5.25 meters long, has a maximum power of up to 275 kW and 368 hp, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The Premium-AWD version has an NEDC range of up to 580 kilometers for urban commuting and long-distance travel, Denza said.

Denza said it has completed five showrooms in key areas in Thailand and will reach 10 sales outlets within the year.

BYD has achieved several milestones in Thailand this year, including the opening of its plant, and the introduction of the Denza brand is another important strategic move for the company in the Thai market, saidLiu Xueliang, general manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific auto sales division.

As the center of the automotive industry in Southeast Asia, Thailand has a mature luxury car market, Liu said, adding that BYD is confident that the Denza will gain acceptance among Thai consumers.

Denza was a joint venture established in 2010 by BYD and Daimler, each holding a 50 percent stake at the time. In February 2022, Daimler was rebranded as Mercedes-Benz.

BYD increased its stake in Denza to 90 percent in 2022 and purchased the remaining 10 percent of Denza from Mercedes-Benz in September of this year.

The D9 is the first model of the renewed Denza brand, and its other models on sale in the Chinese mainland include the N7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and the Z9GT hatchback.

Denza delivered 10,781 vehicles in October, down 6.25 percent year-on-year while up 4.68 percent from September, according to data released by BYD on November 1.

In the January-October period, Denza delivered 100,974 vehicles, down 2.97 percent year-on-year.
