Cutcsa is the largest electric bus operator in Uruguay, which plans to fully electrify its fleet by 2040.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has delivered 100 electric buses to Uruguayan electric bus operator Cutcsa, marking a new development in the commercial vehicle business for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.
The company delivered the electric buses to Cutcsa on September 19 at its plant in Qingdao, Shandong province, with executives from both companies attending a delivery ceremony, according to a statement yesterday.
Cutcsa is Uruguay’s largest electric bus operator, with plans to fully electrify its fleet by 2040.
The model is the BYD K9UD, which measures 12.2 meters in length, 2.55 meters in width and 3.3 meters in height and weighs 19.5 tons.
The bus is equipped with a 422-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a range of up to 450 km.
BYD proposed its electrification solution for city buses in 2010 and has delivered more than 80,000 electric buses worldwide, the company said previously.
In Latin America, BYD’s commercial vehicles are already present in several major countries, including Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador.
BYD sold 2,229 commercial vehicles in August and 9,651 in the January-August period, according to figures it announced on September 1.
The company ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.
It sold 373,083 NEVs, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles, in August, up 35.97 percent year-on-year and 8.97 percent from July.
