BYD’s (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Mexican website has shown specs for the BYD Shark as the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker’s first pickup truck model is hours away from its global debut.

The BYD Shark pickup measures 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width and 1,925 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm.

The model is based on BYD’s DMO platform, where O stands for off-road and DM for dual mode.

It is powered by dual motors, with the front motor producing 170 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque, and the rear motor producing 150 kW of power and 340 Nm of torque.

The BYD Shark can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h.

The model comes with a battery pack with a capacity of 29.58 kWh, an NEDC battery range of 100 kilometers and a combined NEDC range of 840 kilometers.

Being a hybrid, it consumes 7. 5 L of fuel per 100 km.

The BYD Shark’s dashboard is a 10.25-inch LCD screen, it has a 12.8-inch center screen and comes with a 12-inch HUD (Heads Up Display).

The BYD Shark is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, according to the page.

BYD will let the BYD Shark make its world debut in Mexico at 10:30 am local time (12:30 am Beijing Time on May 15), according to the company.

Making the model’s debut in Mexico means it will primarily target overseas markets, rather than its home market.

In China, pickup trucks are categorized as light trucks, which are subject to many restrictions compared to regular passenger car models including sedans, SUVs and MPVs.
