Huawei-backed electric vehicle (EV) brand Aito will unveil an updated version of its M5 SUV (sport utility vehicle) on the eve of the upcoming Beijing auto show, as the first model built by the tech giant with a local automaker is due for a refresh.

“The new Aito M5 will be unveiled on April 23, see you at the Beijing auto show,” Huawei said in a Weibo post today.

The Weibo didn’t mention much more but shared an image of the updated Aito M5.

The upcoming Beijing Auto Show will take place from April 25 to May 4, and the venue’s booth map and automakers’ press event schedules are not yet available.

Aito is a premium car brand launched by Huawei and Seres Group on December 2, 2021 and it announced the M5 on December 23, 2021 with deliveries starting in March 2022.

Aito initially offered only the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants for the M5, and it launched battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants for the model in September 2022.

Currently, the Aito M5 is available in seven variants, including four EREV and three BEV variants.

The Aito M5’s four EREV variants are currently priced at starting prices of RMB 249,800 ($34,520), RMB 269,800, RMB 279,800 and RMB 299,800 respectively. Its three BEV versions start at RMB 259,800, RMB 289,800 and RMB 309,800 respectively.

The Aito M5 is a mid-size SUV and its EREV variant has a length, width and height of 4,770 mm, 1,930 mm, 1,625 mm and a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. Its BEV variant has a length, width and height of 4,785 mm, 1,930 mm, 1,620 mm and a wheelbase of 2,880 mm.

Apart from the M5, Aito also has the M7 and M9, both of which are SUVs.

The Aito M7 was initially launched on July 4, 2022. On September 12, 2023, Huawei rolled out the updated M7 at one of its launch events, allowing the price to be reduced significantly.

In the past seven months, the updated Aito M7 has received 174,000 firm orders, Huawei’s head of automotive business Richard Yu said at an event today.

Aito delivered 31,727 vehicles in March, up 762.38 percent year-on-year and is up 50.07 percent from February, according to data released on March 1.
