The 44th Bangkok International Motor Show, organized by Grand Prix International PCL, achieved unprecedented success this year, showcasing the thriving Thai automotive industry. Thailand’s borders being open to international visitors after two years of COVID restrictions heightened the enthusiasm surrounding the event.
The event attracted an astounding 1,620,459 visitors – a clear testament to the show’s popularity and the industry’s resilience. Exhibiting over 40 global auto and motorcycle marques, the event also marked a remarkable 35.5% increase in sales bookings, with an impressive 45,983 units reserved.
Grand Prix International’s Chief Operation Officer, Mr. Jaturont Komolmis, expressed his delight at the increased participation of automotive and motorcycle manufacturers, attributing their involvement to the lively atmosphere that attracted visitors and spurred sales bookings. He emphasized the positive reflection of the Thai auto industry’s ongoing uptrend in the event’s outcome.
Automobile reservations surged by 34.45%, reaching 42,885 units – a clear sign of the industry’s growth. Notably, this year’s bookings included 21.1% electric vehicles (EVs), a remarkable 200% increase from the previous year. This surge in EV bookings is primarily attributed to competitively priced EV offerings from Chinese automakers.

The two-wheeler segment also flourished, witnessing a remarkable 56.7% increase, totaling 3,098 units reserved, including 870 electric motorcycles. Though Thai Honda chose not to disclose its sales bookings, organizers estimated that the actual total could be higher.
The event’s theme of “Colorful Experiences” combined with the unveiling of over 50 new car models, both facelifts and entirely new designs, along with a substantial display of EVs, significantly influenced customer reservations. These factors highlighted the industry’s innovation and captured attendees’ interest.
Mr. Komolmis extended gratitude to the participating companies and entrepreneurs for their contribution in showcasing automotive technologies, innovative ideas, and captivating displays that contributed to the event’s success. He also emphasized the broader implications of the achievement, stating that it showcased the potential of both the Thai automotive industry and the nation as a whole.

As a nod to its ongoing triumphs, the Bangkok International Motor Show will continue to showcase its significance on the global stage. Organizers have already scheduled the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show for March 27 to April 7, 2024, at Impact Challenger 1-3, Muang Thong Thani.
Reflecting on the milestone, it’s clear that the motor show is more than an automotive event; it’s an emblem of Thailand’s capabilities and achievements. The event’s ability to evolve, even in the face of challenges such as the virtual format it assumed for the past three years, underscores its resilience.

Grand Prix International CEO and organizing chairman, Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow, highlighted the return to normalcy for Thailand’s automotive industry. He noted improvements in the parts shortage situation, alongside the government’s anticipation of increased car and motorcycle production.
The event’s chief operating officer and BIMS vice-chairman, Jaturont Komolmis, set ambitious growth targets of 15% to 20% for both visitors and total vehicle bookings. Positive factors, including eased COVID-19 measures, an improving economic trend, and the emergence of EVs in the market, supported his optimism. Moreover, the show’s estimated 50 million Baht worth of economic contribution is expected to further bolster Thailand’s economy and automotive sector.
In summary, the triumphant 44th Bangkok International Motor Show serves as a testament to Thailand’s automotive prowess, resilience, and the unwavering support of its people. With the success setting the stage for the upcoming 45th edition, the event reaffirms its status as a premier automobile show, not only in Thailand and ASEAN but on the global stage as well.
