BYD sold 90,639 pure electric passenger vehicles and 101,025 plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles in February.
BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) reported a rebound in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in February after its results in January fell due to the seasonal effects of the Chinese New Year holiday.
BYD sold 193,655 NEVs in February, up 27.96 percent from 151,341 units in January and up 119.36 percent from 88,283 units in the same month last year, according to figures released today.
BYD stopped production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, and all of its vehicles are now NEVs, including passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, and they sold 191,664 units and 1,991 units in February, respectively.
Among these passenger vehicles, sales of pure electric vehicles were 90,639 units, up 109.94 percent from 43,173 units in the same month last year and up 27.06 percent from 71,338 units in January.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles were 101,025 units, up 128.05 percent from 44,300 units in the same month last year and 28.16 percent from January.
In February, BYD sold 15,002 NEVs in overseas markets, up 44.13 percent from 10,409 units in January. The company first announced overseas sales figures for NEVs in July 2022.
In addition to being China’s largest NEV company, BYD is also the country’s second-largest manufacturer of power batteries.
BYD’s installed power and energy storage battery capacity in February was about 8.952 GWh, up 93.98 percent from 4.615 GWh in the same month last year and up 9.87 percent from 8.148 GWh in January.
