The Volkswagen ID.3, the Golf’s electric counterpart, went on sale in China on Friday, becoming the company’s third ID. lineup to be offered in the country after the ID.4 and ID.6.

The ID.3 is a compact two-seat sedan with a lower starting price than the ID.4 and ID.6. SAIC Volkswagen is offering three versions of the model, one for 159,888 yuan ($25,000) and the other two for 173,888 yuan.

The model has a length, width and height of 4,261/1,778/1,568mm and a wheelbase of 2,765mm, which is slightly narrower than the versions offered by VW in foreign markets. The overall mass of the car is 1,760kg and the total mass is 2,220kg.

The VW ID.3 is powered by a rear-mounted drive motor with a maximum power of 125kW (170Ps) and a peak torque of 310N-m.

It is powered by a ternary lithium battery pack with a total capacity of 57.3kWh and an NEDC range of 430km.

The ID.3 will be equipped with AR-HUD, which projects driving information and road navigation information on the front windshield.

The new car is also equipped with ID. Light language system in front of the dashboard, a light strip that emits light alerts in various states such as navigation, danger warning, incoming calls and voice interaction.

It is also equipped with L2 level intelligent driving assistance system, the system has ACC adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping, lane departure assist, and other functions.

The model’s launch is expected to further boost VW’s fast-growing electric vehicle sales in China.

VW’s ID. lineup delivered 10,126 units in China in September, up 44 percent from 7023 units in August, according to data the company announced earlier this month.

It also makes VW the first traditional carmaker among joint venture brands in China to deliver more than 10,000 units in a single month.

It’s worth noting that the ID.3 already has a number of competitors in China, including the Dolphin, the first model in BYD’s Ocean lineup, which is the first model on the company’s e Platform 3.0.

BYD officially unveiled the Dolphin at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 29, with a subsidized price of RMB 93,800 – 121,800 yuan.
