Chinese authorities recently announced that the digital driver’s license pilot will cover more cities and will be available to all drivers in the country by 2022.
More than 1.95 million drivers have so far applied for digital driver’s licenses since China launched the pilot in Tianjin, Chengdu, and Suzhou on June 1.
The Ministry of Public Security announced on Weibo Friday that the pilot will be expanded to 28 cities, including Beijing, Changchun, and Nanning, starting September 1.
Drivers can log on to the “Jiaoguan 12123” app to receive a digital driver’s license, which has the same legal effect as a paper driver’s license, said Li Guozhong, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security.
The digital driver’s license is generated through the digital system, which can display the status of the driving license and can be applied to law enforcement management, public services and other scenarios.
The digital driver’s license uses digital signature anti-counterfeiting technology, which is real and unique, safe and reliable, Li said.
The driver can present the digital driver’s license for vehicle driving control, processing traffic violations, handling traffic accidents and other traffic management business, without having to submit a paper driving license again.
In the insurance claims, rental vehicles, career recruitment, drivers can also show digital driver’s license, the relevant units online verification of driving qualifications, more convenient for drivers to drive travel, Li said.
