Chinese automotive giant GAC Group announced at a conference on April 9 that it will work with Huawei to develop L4 self-driving cars for mass production in 2024, according to cls.cn.

Huawei released its 96-line medium- and long-range LIDAR in December last year.

Its application scenarios include small obstacles at a distance, proximal protrusions and tunnels, and it can detect high-speed vehicles.

At the time, Wang Jun, president of Huawei’s Intelligent Vehicle Solutions BU, said Huawei planned to reduce the cost of LiDAR to $200 or even $100.

GAC recently disclosed a patent for an invention called “a control method and device for following a vehicle of an autonomous driving vehicle”, which was filed in September 2018.

The patent is based on the acceleration of the vehicle in front and calculates the desired acceleration of the vehicle to control driving.

The patent improves following safety and passenger experience in overtaking or emergency braking situations with existing technology, according to data provider Qichacha.
