On April 15, Nio’s first second-generation battery swap station was officially opened at the Sinopec Chaoying gas station in Beijing, the first charging facility built jointly by the electric vehicle company and the fossil fuel giant, and Nio’s 201st battery swap station.

Compared to the first-generation battery swap station, the second-generation product is cheaper to build and will have 13 more batteries.

With the launch of the second-generation battery swap station, Nio will speed up the layout of battery swap stations to alleviate the current problem of tight resources for battery exchange.

Nio’s second-generation battery swap station can serve up to 312 times a day, which is three times more efficient than the first-generation battery swap station.

In addition, the second-generation battery swap station can also support automatic vehicle parking, so users do not need to get out of the car, the car can be started with one key, and the battery can be automatically changed.

Up to now, Nio has put into operation 35 battery swap stations, 16 supercharging stations and 18 destination charging stations in Guangdong Province and Macau SAR, and has access to more than 86,200 third-party charging piles.

Separately, in Shanghai, where Tesla’s China factory is located, Nio saw its 20,000th vehicle delivery in the city on Tuesday.
