Tesla’s data collected in China will basically be placed and stored in China, Grace Tao, vice president of the US EV maker, said after a roundtable forum organized by China’s Development and Reform Commission, according to Bloomberg.
In China, Tesla definitely complies with all Chinese laws and regulations, Tao said.
In the future, all smart cars may collect information, and this process needs to be well planned so that consumers can enjoy convenience and safety at the same time, Tao said.
On April 7, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology began soliciting public comments on a smart car management regulation, which mentions that smart connected car manufacturers should collect, use and protect personal information in accordance with the law.
Such companies should implement data classification and grading management, develop important data catalogs, and not disclose sensitive information related to national security.
Personal information and important data collected and generated during operations in China should be stored within the country in accordance with relevant regulations. If it is necessary to provide it outside China due to business needs, it should be reported to the regulatory authorities, the document said.
Previously Tesla had been questioned for its data collection practices in China, and then Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he would never leak the collected data to any country.
