Nio unveiled its long-awaited first sedan, the Nio ET7, on January 9, which uses Qualcomm’s chips for 5G capability in addition to Nvidia chips for amazing computing power.
Qualcomm said Saturday that it will work with Nio to bring the latest next-generation digital cockpit technology to the ET7, which will use the third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Digital Cockpit Platform and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform.
As Qualcomm’s first AI-powered, scalable family of automotive-grade digital cockpit platforms, the third-generation Snapdragon Automotive Digital Cockpit platform supports high-performance computing, immersive graphics multimedia and computer vision capabilities, Qualcomm said.
The platform is designed to bring a highly intuitive AI experience to the Nio ET7, supporting the visual experience of multiple displays in the car and providing heterogeneous computing power support for the linkage of the NOMI in-car artificial intelligence assistant and the large in-car screen, Qualcomm said.
The Snapdragon Automotive 5G platform is the automotive industry’s first announced automotive-grade 5G platform, which Qualcomm says offers comprehensive and industry-leading 5G connectivity with advanced features including support for C-V2X and high-precision positioning.
The Nio ET7 starts at RMB 448,000 ($69,000) without subsidies and has an NEDC range of more than 1,000 km with a 150kWh solid-state battery.
The Nio ET7 features a second-generation Digital Cockpit with a 12.8-inch AMOLED center display, 10.2-inch digital gauges, and HUD. It also supports 5G/V2X/Bluetooth 5.2/Wi-Fi 6/UWB.
