Nio today announced the opening of its 159th battery swap station in China in Yueqing, Zhejiang Province.

This is Yueqing’s first battery swap station, with a black armor theme.

In recent years, China has been actively promoting battery swap infrastructure construction and Nio is accelerating its deployment. As of September 2020, Nio has a total of 155 battery swap stations.

Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong recently said Nio plans to build more than 300 second-generation battery swap stations in China next year.

Miao Wei, minister of industry and information technology, has proposed that China will continue to increase the charging battery swap infrastructure construction, encourage interoperability of various types of charging battery swap facilities.

The 2020 Chinese government work report also mentioned the country will “increase charging piles, battery swap station and other facilities” compared with previous wording of only  “build charging piles”. In the context of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, the “battery swap model” ushers in policy support.

As of September 2020, there are 525 battery swap stations in China, 63 more than in August.

As of September 2020, the operator with the largest number of battery swap stations is Aulton with 276 in total; Nio ranks second; Hangzhou Botan ranks third, with 94 in total.

By province, the top ten are Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shanghai, Hunan, Sichuan, Hainan and Hebei. Among them, Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shanghai, Sichuan, Hainan, Hebei’s battery swap station retention increased compared to last month.
