Boosted by Tesla, Shanghai new energy vehicle production up 126.9% year on year in H1

Driven by Tesla’s production, Shanghai’s output of new energy vehicles reached 70,400 units in the first half of the year, soaring 126.9 percent year-on-year, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

By comparison, the nation’s output of new energy vehicles slumped 36.5 percent to 397,000 units in the same period.

By the end of June, the number of cars with Shanghai license plates was 4,356,500.

Among them, 251,100 were new-energy vehicles, up 15.92 percent from the end of last year, 6.47 percentage points higher than the national growth rate of new-energy vehicle ownership (9.45 percent).

As a new industry in Shanghai, the output value of new energy vehicles increased by 95.7% in the first half of the year, up 90.0 percentage points from the first quarter, and 90.2 percentage points higher than the growth rate of the city’s total output value of industrial strategic emerging industries (5.5%).
